FMF Verilog Models

Many, but not all, of FMF's VHDL models are also available in Verilog and/or SystemVerilog.

Some notes about Verilog component models

Verilog is used quite successfully for RTL ASIC and FPGA design. However, at other levels of abstraction certain short comings become apparent. The first of these is portability. FMF's Verilog models are tested on and compatible with Cadence's ncverilog and Mentor's ModelSim. They are not tested on, and will likely not work with, any other Verilog simulators.

The second issue is support of higher levels of abstraction. When higher levels are required, FMF uses SystemVerilog instead of traditional Verilog. The same portabilty issues persist and the same simulators are supported as for regular Verilog.

In addition to Mentor and Cadence, we are working with Synopsys to improve our SystemVerilog compatibility with VCS. Most models now work with VCS.

For models of memories 512Mb and larger FMF supplies an additional SystemVerilog model incorporating dynamic memory allocation. This will allow simulations to run on workstations with less memory than required for running the Verilog models.

FMF MAKES NO WARRANTIES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF ANY MODELS IN ITS DATA REPOSITORY. USERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING THE ACCURACY OF THE MODELS, SOFTWARE OR TOOLS PROVIDED (TEST SUITES, PACKAGES, TIMING, ETC.).

Note:

All libraries are available in tar'ed and compressed (gzip) format for easier downloading.

FIFO Library

This library is for FIFO models of components from IDT.

Flash Memory Library

This library is for flash memory models of components from Spansion.

RAM Library

The RAM Library is for models of particular read/write memories. Because there is no generic number scheme for this class of parts, FMF will name models after a particular vendor's part number. We do not mean to play favorites with these numbers (except in the case of vendor sponsorship) - the vendor specific number will be chosen by the organization sponsoring the model. The timing files may still reflect multiple manufacturers.

We would like to hear of your experience using these models - the good, the bad, and the ugly. We would also like to hear which components, from which vendors, you need modeled. Please send email.
